Open Mike Evening Celebrates talent from The Mount

A great evening was had by all last night at The Mount School Open Mike Event.  Over 70 people came to share an evening of poetry, literature and song from 20 performers from the Staff, Pupils and local Community.  Ages ranged from 10-65 and the one common thread was the quality of performance and fun atmosphere.

Originally conceived as a bistro evening to share and promote the work of poets and authors from the school, published by mardibooks it developed into a wider event encompassing a wide array of talents where performers showcased their own work and the work of others.

Authors Xarina and Jeremy Havardi joined poets Belinda Hunt and Alyson Torns, along with musician Anthony Wilson and a plethora of talented students and staff from the school.

The event took place in the Gym at The Mount which had been turned into a Bistro serving snacks and drinks to the audience so that the evening could accommodate so many acts which included a medley of songs spanning tastes and generations as well as a broad repertoire of readings and presentations.

It was also an opportunity for the work showcased to be purchased and  raise money for The Good Neighbours Scheme, who also joined us to celebrate the evening. The Mount School Anthology - A Celebration of Food from the Four Seasons of the World, and Belinda Hunt's Poetry Collection - Windows & Doors were available along with other recently published mardibooks releases - see below for details...

Thanks to all staff and pupils involved and in particular to Amber,  Lauren,  Mariam,  Lynda,  who were the FOH and Stage Management Team and to Elif - a compere beyond compare!
Arriving home at half eleven, I was greeted by the following text from one of the girls:

Hi Mrs Hunt,
I know you're probably absolutely shattered after tonight, but we just want to say a huge thank you!
It was a great success and we really appreciate the fantastic opportunity!
Thank you again, let's look forward to selling more books on Sunday!
